ABOVE: Flight operations at Andrewsfield stopped on 18 February
Members and students were informed on 18 February that flying operations and on-site facilities at Andrewsfield would be suspended until further notice. In a statement, airfield manager Mike Rowland confirmed that the office, clubhouse and café would also close as part of the immediate measures.
While the statement did not elaborate on the reasons behind the shutdown, it is obviously causing substantial disruption for based operators and also students in the middle of training programmes. The operating company has stated it will work directly with those currently undergoing flight instruction to help identify ‘suitable alternative options’. Instructors are expected to contact individual students to discuss next steps, including potential transfers to other airfields or partner organisations. Pilot has contacted Andrewsfield airfield for clarification on the situation, but is yet to receive a response.
