Nottingham City Airport (Tollerton) continues to face uncertainty, although campaigners report some early developments they regard as encouraging. The airfield remains open for rotary-wing traffic, while runways are still temporarily closed to fixed-wing operations.
In January, the Save Nottingham Airfield Group (SNAG) successfully called for a pause in Rushcliffe Borough Council’s proposed adoption of a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) linked to the Sustainable Urban Expansion project.
Several statutory consultees subsequently advised that the SPD was incomplete and did not yet meet the evidence typically required for a redevelopment of this scale. The delay has provided additional time for scrutiny of the proposals and for further evidence to be requested from developers. However, campaigners note that there remains a possibility that the Council could proceed with adoption of the SPD despite these concerns.
In response, SNAG has indicated that it is preparing for the possibility of seeking a Judicial Review, should this become necessary. To support its activities, the group has launched a Lifetime Supporter Membership scheme as part of a broader fundraising effort aimed at strengthening its legal and organisational capacity. Community engagement also continues, with a public event titled ‘Chocks Away: Runway Revival Rally’ scheduled for Saturday 21 March at 10:30am at the Tollerton Scout Hut. The event is intended to provide campaign updates, encourage local involvement, and raise funds to support future actions.
