ABOVE: London Heathrow continues to surpass its own records, with Summer 2024 another record-breaking period for the airport.

London’s Heathrow Airport has experienced its busiest ever start to Autumn, recording a record-breaking 7.3 million passengers passing through its doors in September and its single ever largest arrivals day.

Although September 2023 was the first month in the airport’s history to surpass seven million passengers, 2024 has topped this by over 200,000; marking continued growth for the London hub. A spectacular September also marked the culmination of a “record summer, with over 30 million passengers travelling for a break in the sun during June to September,” explained a Heathrow spokesperson.

Heathrow’s busiest ever arrivals day was recorded on 2 September, with over 140,400 passengers landing at Heathrow, something the airport attributes to the ‘back to school season [being] in full swing’.

“We are closing out our super summer on a high,” commented Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye. “Being named the most connected airport and best airport for retail in the world is testament to the strong relationship we have cultivated with our airliners and retailers”.

September was also a record month for the numbers of passengers using the airport’s assistance service, something which over 210,000 people benefitted from. ‘Assistance services are a core part of the passenger proposition to ensure everyone who needs support has a smooth journey through Heathrow, whether they are avid travellers or first time flyers,’ explained the airport.
