For eight aspiring aviators, it could be the first step from the edge of the runway to a career in the skies. Youngsters living within 25 miles of Cotswold Airport, better known to many as former RAF Kemble are being invited to apply for the Airport’s 2026 Aviation Scholarship.
This year’s scholarship running from Tuesday 11th to Friday 21th August 2026, will offer eight local students aged between 15 and 17 (on 21 August 2026), a hands-on introduction to the breadth of general aviation. No previous flying experience is required – just enthusiasm and curiosity about aviation.
Founded in 2007 by airport owner Ronan Harvey, the scholarship is designed to showcase the wide range of careers and opportunities available across the GA sector.
This year’s cohort will visit engineering facilities and aircraft component manufacturers, as well as touring resident companies including ZeroAvia and Vertical Aerospace, both at the forefront of developing next-generation aircraft.
Behind the scenes at the airport, scholars will gain insight into air traffic services, control tower operations and military activity, along with a close look at airport firefighting. There will also be an introduction to learning to fly.
Last year’s students logged experience in microlights, light aircraft and helicopters, thanks to the support of the airport’s resident flying schools – a highlight that organisers expect to repeat in 2026.
Chief Executive Suzannah Harvey said the programme continues to inspire the next generation.
“We are so proud of what the scholarship programme delivers,” she said. “Every year we see tremendous enthusiasm, and it’s hugely rewarding to watch former graduates go on to pursue careers across the aviation industry.
“It’s a privilege to share our passion for aviation here at Cotswold. The support from our on-site teams and tenants means participants receive a genuinely broad and varied introduction to the sector.”
Applications are open now, with a closing date of 1700 on Friday 9 March 2026. Successful applicants will be announced ahead of the August course.
