Electric aircraft charging infrastructure provider Aerovolt is to open up investment opportunities to “the wider aviation, enthusiast and business angel community,” with an upcoming fundraising round due to go live on Tuesday 10 September.

Two funding rounds are currently planned; a small current venture round of approximately £250,000 and a much larger round (scheduled for Q4 2024 / Q1 2025) of over £4 million, with both rounds already possessing “committed and interested investors”. Aerovolt adds that it has “already exceeded the entire round allocation on expressions of intent in just ten days before any life pitch or follow up promotional campaign”.

Aerovolt describes itself as “the first of its kind to deploy public use multi-site charging systems for aircraft anywhere in the world,” and as far as it is aware, has no current competitors. With the units themselves built in Switzerland by manufacturer Eaton, “the charging network systems are being developed to work with a variety of current and upcoming electric aircraft, as well as drones and eVTOLs,” clarified Aerovolt.

Aerovolt has been slowly installing a network of 22kW airside chargers at airfields across the south of the UK, including at Dunkeswell, Lydd, Henstridge, Shoreham, Sandown and Bournemouth. In August last year, the company announced its intention to install up to 18 further units over the next 18 months, with Aerovolt able to supply charging facilities to a variety of locations including “farm strips, aerodromes and regional airports”.

The company currently as over 75 aerodromes (UK and international) joining its “ever growing list of charger installs”. The aerodrome does not “pay a penny for the charger or its instillation and ongoing maintenance costs”. Instead, a price per kW is set by the aerodrome, with users able to access charging stations via a £36 monthly subscription to Aerovolt’s ‘Squadron’ app.
