The largest Flight Training School in the North East, Durham Tees Flight Training (DTFT), has announce that it will be expanding its current operating after they acquired St George Flight Training based at Durham Tees Valley and Newcastle Airports.

St George Flight Training has been very successful across the region since 1993 and is approved by the Civil Aviation Authority to teach courses for Instructor Rating and Commercial Pilot’s Licence.

After the retirement of Captain Eric Reed the owner of St George Flight Training, the Teesside operation will be merging with Durham Tees Flight Training and the Newcastle operation will be merging with Northumbria Flying School.

All the staff, instructors and aircraft at St George Flight Training will remain within the business, this will mean there is almost no change and disruption to customer training or aircraft hire.

The Durham Tees Flight Training operation will consist of 13 instructors, teaching in 15 aircraft across two sites. With Northumbrian Flying School’s engineering and maintenance facility at Newcastle which will compliment the use of outside maintenance organisations, maintenance turnaround times and aircraft availability are said to be greatly improved.

The DTFT planes to start a programme of aircraft improvement over the next few years, this will include improving the type and age of their current fleet and introduction more facilities for students and PPL hirers.
