Engine failure will impact the certification program for Cessna 182 JT-A
The Cessna diesel 182 JT-A test airplane had a forced landing due to an apparent engine failure, this will impact the certification program. Cessna and SMA are now working to determine what the problem was.
The test pilot of the experimental aircraft reported to ATC that his engine blew after the SMA Diesel engine stopped running.
The 182 departed to perform a normal test flight as part of the certification process when it developed serious engine trouble over a city in Kansas. The pilot got away with no injuries after landing near an intersection of two roads in a field.
