Following an Annual Inspection, a Chipmunk was being taxied from the maintenance organisation to the flying club when difficulty was experienced in maintaining directional control. It was noted that the nose was offset to the right by 15 to the direction of travel. Straightening the nose caused the aircraft to veer rapidly to the left.

Investigation revealed that the main landing gear oleos, which had been replaced at the Annual Inspection, were misaligned to the left. The maintenance organisation has reviewed its supervision and return to service procedures to ensure full and functional checks are carried out, and that all measurements and alignments are properly documented.
