In the 75th year since her untimely death, this large format book of photographs documents the short life of Amy Johnson, a pioneering English pilot who, in 1930, became the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia.
Previously unseen family photos show her as a child, and there are shots of her as a university student, horse-riding, fishing, skiing and rally driving. Others capture her more public image as the hard-working but glamorous aviatrix, setting world records and meeting celebrities.
While the story of her life is well known, the almost 200 contemporary photographs here, drawn from public and private sources, offer further insight.
