On 11 November Diamond formally handed over the first fifty DA40 Tundra Stars at Yekaterinburg in the Ural region of Russia.
Working with UWCA (Ural Works of Civil Aviation), Diamond Aircraft succeeded in producing this first batch of aircraft within six months. It represents the first delivery against an order from the Russian Ministry of Aviation for 117 of the single-engine, four-seater aircraft.
The aircraft will go into operation at the state flight training schools in Ulyanovsk and St. Petersburg early next year. The DA40 Tundra Star was especially designed for the Russian market. It is capable of operating from unprepared airstrips in a harsh climate and is already claimed to be a bestseller. Its diesel engine can use a range of different fuels, from Jet A-1, Jet A, and TC-1 to kerosene.
