Now in its third year, The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers is again seeking applicants for its flying scholarship in memory of Sir Geoffrey de Havilland.
Appropriately, the training is carried out in the DH Tiger Moths of the Cambridge Flying Group at Cambridge Airport.
“It has been said many times that ‘if you can fly a Tiger Moth, you can fly anything!’” says the Group’s Howard Cook, “and the Cambridge Flying Group has more than sixty years of providing this experience.”
Applications are invited from people aged 18-30 who are resident in the UK and have not previously been awarded any such bursary. The aim is to make a significant difference to the applicants’ opportunity to learn to fly. While no previous flying experience is required, evidence of a keen interest in aviation is essential.
The scholarship will fund half of the cost of the standard hours’ training required for a PPL, to be match-funded by the successful winner on an hours-flown basis.
