Textron Aviation recently unveiled the Pipistrel Voyager, the latest two-seat training aircraft specifically designed to take advantage of the FAA’s Modernisation of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) regulations. The Voyager is aimed at flight schools seeking a purpose-built trainer engineered for high-frequency training operations, with a focus on efficiency, durability and high utilisation.

Lannie O’Bannion, Textron Aviation’s senior vice-president of sales and marketing, said the aircraft represents the ’next generation of training aircraft’, equipped with Garmin AXIS avionics and designed to support instrument flight rules (IFR) training. Other features include spin certification capability, a single-lever power control, three-axis autopilot and a preliminary useful load of 250kg with a maximum takeoff weight of 630kg.

MOSAIC introduced a new Part 22 certification pathway for light-sport aircraft operating in the USA, and several other manufacturers are similarly redesigning their aircraft to meet MOSAIC’s requirements. Entry into service for the Voyager is scheduled for 2027.
