Swansea Aerodrome has been successfully operated by the Swansea Airport Stakeholders’ Alliance, a volunteer-led not-for-profit social enterprise, for the last 18 months, and during that time the aerodrome has gone from strength to strength. It has recently been granted a 125-year lease, which commenced on 1 July. The operators are keen to attract new businesses and build a busy GA facility, and the security provided by the lease will allow the operators to offer long-term commercial tenancies.
Swansea Aerodrome, formerly RAF Fairwood Common, occupies 450 acres in the heart of the Gower National Landscape with direct A-road access to Swansea and the M4. The aerodrome is CAA licensed, and offers an A/G service, CAT I RFFS, and two hard runways (04/22 and 10/28). Hangarage is available, as is 100LL, AVTUR and UL91/94.
The operators are developing a programme of fly-ins and events to increase visitor numbers and create further opportunities for its partners, and are inviting organisations wishing to establish fixed and rotary wing flight training, maintenance or other aviation businesses in the area.
