Vintage flyers dodge the storms for VAC Turweston fly-in
Despite having to dodge a band of thunderstorms across the UK, more than 40 aircraft arrived at Turweston on Sunday 8th September for the Vintage Aircraft Club’s “Late Spring Rally”. The event was a late addition to the club’s calendar after the original March event was cancelled by blizzards!
The gathering attracted rarities including Peter Holloway’s Miles Magister, a brace of early post-war Tipsy aircraft, a selection of Tiger, Hornet and Leopard Moths, Great Lakes biplane and the immaculate, newly restored Stinson 108-3 Flying Station Wagon of Matthew Colebrook. The fly-in also celebrated the life of David Harper, former chairman of the VAC and for two decades the popular host of similar gatherings at nearby Finmere, who passed away in July.
“Good food, good company and some great aeroplanes” was the verdict of VAC Chairman Stephen Slater. “VAC fly-ins are all about socialising and enjoying vintage and classic aircraft. Turweston perfectly fitted the bill.”
Forthcoming VAC events include a member’s only fly-in and barbeque “somewhere in Bedfordshire” early in October, AGM and fly-in at Bicester on October 12th and the flying season-closing “All-Hallows” gathering at Wellesbourne on Sunday 27th.
