Thanks to continued support from ultralight specialist Peter Funk, a new aircraft diesel has been certified in Germany.

Tested over the course of 2,500hr on the ground and 2,000hr in an Fk9 MkIV, FlyEco’s engine is based on the engine used in the Smart car and uses a toothed-belt reduction drive. Astonishingly low ‘best economy’ fuel consumption of 7 li/hr is claimed. 80 and 102hp versions are available, and the unit is claimed to weigh 4kg less than the Rotax 912.
