Daring pilots will take off this weekend at Ascot Racecourse to make sporting history in these aviation world championships.

The world’s top thrill-seeking pilots will perform one of the most mind-blowing displays of aeronautics across the globe on August 13 and 14, manoeuvring their aircraft down a low-aerial race track made up of 25 metre high air-filled pylons.

The competition will consist of 24 high-speed races with the pilots all hoping to secure the Challenger’s Cup, with the best pilots eventually battling it out in the qualifying round on Sunday.

Doors open at 11am on Saturday, with spectacles including a Red Arrows flypast at 4pm and the Breitling Wing Walkers taking place at 1pm. The venue will close at 7pm.

Sunday’s schedule opens at 10am and will feature a meet and greet with the Challenger pilot, a display by historic army aircraft and a prize giving ceremony at 3.55pm. Doors will close at 6pm.

This weekend is just one part of the air show’s global tour, the winner of which will be crowned the Red Bull Air Race Champion of 2016.
