The Light Aircraft Company Ltd (TLAC), based at Little Snoring airfield in North Norfolk and manufacturer of the Sherwood family of light aircraft, has started production of the Sherwood KUB, a single seat SSDR light aircraft.
It was originally a Reality Kid design, but TLAC have been rationalising it, remanufacturing jigs and fixtures, and preparing the 4130 steel tubes from which it is manufactured.
With new and revised tooling and state of the art welding equipment in place, the first factory-built aircraft is nearing completion and another airframe finish is welded and awaiting powder coating.
The Sherwood KUB is a conventionally configured 3 axis high wing tailwheel aircraft with a fully enclosed cockpit. It can be powered by engines up to 45 hp and incorporates features not found in other SSDR aircraft such as 3 stage flaps, a luggage bay, windows that can be opened in flight and most importantly, a 2 minute wing fold without the need for any controls to be disconnected. It can be loaded onto its trailer in 5 minutes without the need for tools.
The KUB has a fuel burn of 6lt an hour when powered by a Hirth F33 2 stroke engine and a fuel capacity single tank of 23.5lt or twin tanks of 47lt. These give it great endurance. It benefits with a high lift wing and flaps and offers owners incredible short field performance with take off and landing rolls on grass, and in still air of 50m.
