Following ‘significant discussion and pressure from the airfield businesses’ the 24 hour notice PPR for visiting aircraft introduced by the airfield management at Lee-on-Solent and reported in the April edition of Pilot was short lived, and has been rescinded.
‘PPR will remain in force at the airfield for all out of hours operations, with exceptions applying for residents operating under a waiver system,’ wrote Airfield, Air Safety & Flight Operations Manager Andy Walters in a memorandum issued at the end of January. ‘During normal operating hours PPR is encouraged… however there will be no formal requirement to obtain PPR before arriving at the airfield. These conditions during normal operating hours apply to both residents and visiting aircraft.’
Following Sappphire’s departure, operation will continue to be a ‘self-handling’ service only, with Britten-Norman providing an Air to Ground service during operational hours. Visitors are now requested to park their aircraft on the Tower apron, which offers ‘a much easier and safer method of getting landside, via access to the waterfront area of the airfield and via the Argus Gate entrance.’
