Freelance Assistant Editor / Journalist (Part-Time, Remote) – Pilot Magazine

Key Publishing is a content hub with global reach. Through unrivalled passion and media technology, we connect enthusiasts around the world through expert, informed and engaging content. 

We produce marketing leading magazines, books, bookazines and digital content across aviation, transport, history and modelling.

We are now looking for a freelance journalist to work on Pilot Magazine.

If you have an interest in aviation and enjoy producing high-quality editorial work, you’ll fit right in.

  • Remote & flexible: Work from anywhere in the world (ideally the UK) and set your own schedule. Initially the commitment will be for roughly 1.25 days per week but – if you want – this can be increased after the initial training period
  • Real responsibility in a small team: Your ideas matter, your writing will be read, and your contribution will be visible
  • Variety: One week you’re editing a flight test; the next you’re unpicking a safety investigation or polishing a long-form feature. It’s genuinely interesting work

What You’ll Do

  • Write and sub-edit features, news pieces, and longer-form articles and investigations
  • Develop ideas with the team and help shape the magazine’s editorial and strategic direction
  • Support production, including admin and workflow tasks
  • Adapt to whatever the week requires — we’re a small, collaborative team and flexibility is essential

Who We’re Looking For

You could be early-career or experienced. What matters is that you bring:

  • Interest in aviation (ideally General Aviation)
  • Willingness and ability to learn and improve
  • Strong organisational skills, and the ability to plan and manage workloads
  • Curiosity and initiative
  • Sound editorial judgment
