Disabled flying charity Freedom in the Air (FITA) has launched a National Private Pilots Licence (NPPL) scholarship.
The scholarship will provide a young disabled person with 45 hours of dual flight instruction, 100 hours of ground school, written exams and accommodation.
Training will take place at FITA’s brand new all-inclusive and accessible aeroplane production facility at Birchwood in Yorkshire. This has been constructed to allow both able-bodied and disabled people to work alongside each other, making adapted aircraft and flying them. The residential accommodation is also designed to be accessible.
The award is being offered in partnership with Phab – a national charity that aims to encourage people with and without disabilities to take part in a wide range of activities – and has been provided with funding by the Florian Charitable Trust.
