35,000 people watch an old Marine CH-46E helicopter crash.

NASA equipped an old Marine CH-46E with almost 40 cameras which would record the helicopter along with 13 crash dummies being dropped at a speed of roughly 30 miles per hour. The helicopter was painted with a black and white do scheme, with the black dots representing data points. The cameras captured 500 images per second and tracked each individual black dot, providing data to assist them in it task of evaluation how the crash played out.

The crash was put on as an experiment to test the new seats and seatbelts whilst collecting some other miscellaneous crash data. The test took place at Langley Research Centre in Hampton, Virginia and was broadcast live on the web, where 30,000 plus people watch the event.
