Manston airport could close in a matter of weeks, according to reports.
According to a BBC article, the airport’s chief executive Charles Buchanan has said that Manston may shut as early as 9 April.
It was announced on Wednesday that a consultation was being held over the future of the airport, which Pilot featured in its April 2014 edition.
The site was bought in October for £1 by Ann Gloag, the co-founder of the Stagecoach group. It’s closure would threaten 144 jobs.
Yesterday in Parliament, Thanet MP Sir Roger Gale asked aviation minister Robert Goodwill to look into how the airport could be kept open. Mr Goodwill told the Commons he would meet him to talk about its future.
Meanwhile, at the time of writing an online petition to prevent Manston’s closure had attracted nearly 7,000 signatures.
Manston aims to operate as normal during the consultation period. For more information visit the airport’s website.
