Since 2007, Caledonian Advanced Pilot Training has provided real-world training for students seeking to pass the written exams for professional licences, for EASA and Transport Canada. Since then, several hundred students have passed their exams with an average pass mark of 88%.
Today, we have three bases in the UK, one in Holland, near Amsterdam, and another in the USA, at West Palm Beach. This markedly reduces our carbon footprint, as students can attend the compulsory classroom sessions nearer to their own locations.
As all of our instructors are working pilots, with experience ranging from airlines and offshore to the Canadian and Australian bush, we offer current, safety-based training that incorporates the why, so the how will become easier – it is much easier to learn things if you know why you have to learn them! Our training will help make you look like a professional in next to no time!
We think that there is a lot that can be taught in the early stages on top of the standard syllabus that will make for better pilots in their later careers. For example, PPL(H) and CPL(H) holders must pass an extra course before transitioning to multi-engined helicopters. This training is included in all our helicopter courses, and the certificate is provided on graduation. In this way, we train you for your entry into the industry, rather than just for the pilot exams. After all, you still have to pass the technical interview, and they won’t be asking multi-choice questions!
The Head of Training, Phil Croucher, is also an authorised CRM instructor, and an initial CRM certificate valid for three years is issued on graduation as well. As well as being a registered aviation consultant, Phil is also writing questions for the EASA exams and is involved in rewriting the EASA Learning Objectives for future students.
There are some who think that distance learning can be frustrating and difficult. This is not the case. Our course notes have been specifically written for distance learning, using a syllabus that takes your studies in a logical order, building up your knowledge in a steady manner. The fourteen subjects (for the ATPL) are arranged in three modules, with the relevant exams being taken after each one. However, there are some advantages to be obtained in taking all fourteen at once, which many students have done successfully. Currently, our graduates are flying from the North Sea to South America, including Australia and Canada.
