The CAA has granted the Light Aircraft Association (LAA) permission to carry out trials in order to validate work done to develop the additional requirements necessary for night/IFR approval in permit aircraft.

The permission removes the Day/VFR flight restriction for a small number of trial aircraft to gain experience of operating permit types at night and in IMC.

The LAA’s Chief Executive, Philip Hall, commented “The project has been running for the past six years and many hours of hard work have been put in by both volunteers and the engineering team here at the LAA. We are obviously very pleased to be able to take the next step on the road to gaining permanent Night/IFR approval for suitable permit aircraft.”

The testing will start in the coming weeks and is scheduled to run into 2015.
