Join fellow flying enthusiasts at IWM Duxford this April 14 for the 2018 Airfield Safety Day
Now in its twelfth year, this popular event heralds the start of the flying season ahead and offers pilots dedicated guidance and advice on the best-practice approach to safe flying.
This specialised event includes a variety of talks, tours and table-top presentations, giving the General
Aviation community the opportunity to come together and meet other aviation enthusiasts while learning about new developments in the sector.
Attendees will hear from all the major organisations involved in General Aviation, including the Civil Aviation Authority, National Air Traffic Services, and Distress & Diversion.
Attendees of the Airfield Safety Day will be invited to attend The Inside View: The Lancaster at 11.15am or 2.45pm. One of the expert IWM guides will talk about the iconic Avro Lancaster, from the design of the aircraft through the bomber’s illustrious history to the celebrated Dams Raid and the controversy of ‘area bombing’ under Bomber Harris.
You may also see historic aircraft take off from IWM Duxford’s famous airfield as you explore the museum.
There will also be presentations taking place from 11.30am to 1.30pm and repeated 2pm to 4pm from the following:
– Rob Gratton, Principal Airspace Regulator, Civil Aviation Authority
– Blain Kelly, Terminal Control Safety Manager at National Air Traffic Services (NATS)
– David Cockburn, General Aviation Navigation Group, Royal Institute of Navigation
– Flight Sergeant Paul Buttolph and FS Jason Ferguson, Distress & Diversion (D&D)
Tabletop presentations will run from 10.30am onwards.
Entry to the IWM Duxford Airfield Safety Day is £5 per person. The landing fee is reduced to £9 per
aircraft. There is no additional admission fee to IWM Duxford. Visitors travelling by car, or unable to fly in due to bad weather, must pre-book.
