ZeroAvia has signed an agreement with RVL Aviation to retrofit Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft with its hydrogen-electric, zero-emission ZA600 powertrain. Anticipated flights within the British Isles will commence after certification of the engine, airframe integration, and eventual certification of the aircraft and service. ZeroAvia’s powertrains use hydrogen in fuel cells to generate electricity for electric motors that drive propellers, producing only water as a byproduct. This switch could reduce overall climate impact by approximately 90%. Additionally, hydrogen-electric propulsion offers lower operating costs due to reduced maintenance and fuel expenses.

Analyses by RVL and ZeroAvia indicate that nearly 1,000 aircraft currently operating cargo routes worldwide could potentially be powered by ZA600 powertrains in the future. ZeroAvia has previously tested a prototype of the ZA600 with a Dornier 228 aircraft at its UK base. The powertrain is under certification with the UK CAA.
