Tendring District council has granted two planning permissions for the development of Great Oakley Airfield.

The first provides for the operation of a flying school at the site and the second enables it to be used by helicopters. Both activities had previously been precluded by a Planning Inspector when, in 1994 and faced with an Enforcement Notice issued by the Local Planning Authority, he had granted planning permission for the airfield to be established.

Furthermore, the owner of the airfield, Mr Tim Spurge, would be interested to hear from a suitably qualified engineer or company keen to operate an aeroplane maintenance organisation at the site – either in an existing purpose built hangar or in a new build structure – and a company (preferably aviation related) requiring office accommodation in a high-quality listed barn at the airfield.
