Garmin has released a digital radar altimeter for transport category, helicopter, business and general aviation aircraft.

The GRA 5500 has been designed to provide smooth altitude tracking over challenging environments such as rough terrain, tree canopies, sand and choppy water.

According to the company, its all-digital design enables the altimeter to intelligently process hundreds of altitude measurements per second and apply advanced digital filters to help detect and mitigate false altitude returns.
