The Chairman of the GAAC Charles Henry heralds publication of the guidance document Managing the Impact of Wind Turbines as a major success in providing assistance to GA airfields and guidance to both Local Planning departments and wind turbine developers. The result of a collaboration between the GAAC, CAA, MOD, DfT, NATS, DECC, AOA, Renewable UK and the Crown Estate the document will provide a better understanding of the operational and safety issues surrounding the operation of GA airfields. By bringing together the concerns and recommendations of the many aviation organisations involved it is hoped that airfields, planning departments and wind farm developers will be better informed and there will be a reduction in the number of opportunistic planning applications and costly and time-consuming appeals.
