French pilot Bruno Vezzoli has completed the cross-Channel challenge in his ‘flying car’ craft, Pegasus
Vezzoli set off at 8am local time from an abandoned wartime runway in Ambleteuse, a town located on the French northern coastline between Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer.
Because most of the flight was over the English Channel, the car was equipped with sea survival equipment as a safety precaution. Fortunately this was not needed during the challenge. The craft landed successfully 37 miles away from its starting point in East Studdal near Dover.
In order to complete a takeoff Pegasus requires around 100 metres ground run and just 30m to land. The craft is said to fly at a maximum speed of 50mph, have a 10,000ft ceiling and remain in the air for about three hours.
