The FAA has issued an airworthiness directive (AD) affecting PA-28, PA-32, PA-34 and PA-44 aircraft.
It requires the owners of affected aircraft over the age of fifteen years to inspect their control cable assemblies on an annual basis.
The document’s summary states: ‘This AD was prompted by reports of control cable assembly failures that may lead to failure of the horizontal stabilator control system and could result in loss of pitch control. This AD requires inspections of the stabilator control system and replacement of parts as necessary.’
In a statement Piper said that it ‘has cooperated fully with the FAA in developing’ the safety directive and considers the move ‘helpful to increase overall flight safety’
