The transition period to the new timetable for existing facilities will begin next April

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has announced that the transition period for existing private pilot Registered Training Facilities to transfer to the new Declared Training Organisation (DTO) category will run from 8 April 2018 to 8 April 2019.

For training schools offering only private flying qualifications, the DTO cuts down requirements and uses a simpler oversight regime, potentially allowing a school to declare its activities meet the set standards, rather than have to obtain a full approval.

More detail on the transition process, including a consultation on CAA charges for oversight of the organisations, will be published later in November. Declaration and training syllabus forms, with detailed guidance on how to establish and operate as a DTO, will be published in early 2018 at www.caa.co.uk.
