The TBM business aircraft manufacturer will participate in the design and certification of Airbus’s E-Fan 2.0 electric aircraft.
Airbus intends to manufacture the two-seater general aviation training aircraft in series, and aims to use the project to pave the way for electrical applications on aircraft of a larger size.
Under the project management of VoltAir – Airbus Group’s subsidiary for design, development and certification of E-Fan 2.0 – Daher-Socata will take on responsibility for the aircraft’s development, including its electric engine and batteries, as well as flight test and certification by EASA as Europe’s airworthiness authority. The company will also define operational rules for ab-initio training with the French DGAC civil aviation airworthiness authority.
The contract is the result of an initial eighteen-month phase of work studies conducted with Airbus Group, which allowed the project structure.
