Examination of the maintenance records of a crashed C152, found on a private grass strip in North Stonington, Connecticut with the owner dead at the scene, revealed that the aircraft’s most recent annual inspection was carried out in 1991.

At the time the annual was completed, the tachometer time was recorded as 380 hours. The instrument reading suggested the aircraft had only accumulated a further 26 hours during the years since. Rust was found in the carburettor float bowl and the carburettor and gascolator filters were corroded, although they were not blocked.
