Despite adverse weather conditions the weather station thirty miles away reported heavy rain showers and mist and an overcast cloudbase of 300 feet agl the hunter pilot embarked on a low level search flight with his Cessna 172’s flaps set at ten degrees. The aircraft struck two oak trees whilst manoeuvring, leaving the pilot with minor injuries.
