Fly or drive to Coventry Airport this weekend for classic aircraft action
DUE to a last minute change in airshow commitments the Classic Flight Club is hosting a ‘spur of the moment’ Open Day at its Coventry Airport base this coming Saturday and Sunday (June 27 and 28).The Classic Flight Club operates a fleet of old aeroplanes fromChipmunk and Auster to Meteor, Vampire and Venom jet fighters. It alsooperates ultra-rare examples of the Percival Prentice and Pembroke,Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer and one of only two airworthyex-military Avro Ansons in the world. The club is dedicated to keeping its fleet of irreplaceable treasures in the skies. If you would like to take to the skies in a classic piece of aviation heritage one of the Classic Flight Club’s de Havilland Dragon Rapide biplanes will be offering pleasure flights all day.There will also be a variety of military vehicles on the groundthroughout the day and the resident Avro Shackleton will be firing upits four mighty Rolls Royce Griffon engines during the afternoon. Forthose interesting in a behind the scenes look at how the club keeps itseclectic fleet of old aeroplanes aloft there will also be toursof the hangar and maintenance facilities.The club is a not-for-profit organisation and aims to raise money through memberships and other support to preserve classic aviation.
