The unwritten theme of the event was the race to become the leader in the very light jet (VLJ) market. Cessna, Eclipse, and Adam Aircraft were talking about their progress on achieving certification and all had demonstrators flying at the show.

Piper, who are not yet participants in the race dropped a heavy hint that a jet is in their plans. CEO James K (Jim) Bass, talking to PILOT said that they are in the middle of an extensive hiring programme and that many of the new employees will have jet experience.
