The Italian company Avioportolano has announced at AERO 2023 that it will start trials in the Venice lagoon for a navigation system tailored for drone navigation. “The islands in the Venetian lagoon provide an optimal environment for this kind of testing. The drones will be flying most of the time over water, minimising noise and safety issues that we would otherwise have over populated areas” said Guido Medici, the CEO of Avioportolano.

The system to be trialled is being designed specifically for delivery drones, which typically fly missions that require vertical take off and landing, point-to-point navigation, and low altitude flying.

Avioportolano is a Venice-based firm specialised in charting and navigation systems for light aviation.
