NASA offers a $1.5 million prize to whoever can create a capable aircraft
NASA is getting behind the push for more energy efficient aircraft after announcing it will give a $1.5 million prize for the first aircraft that can average at least 100 mph on a 200-mile flight while achieving greater than 200 passenger miles per gallon. Experimental aircraft using solar, electrical or biofuel or hybrid propulsion are expected to enter. The competition will be hosted by the Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency (CAFE) Foundation and is scheduled for July 2011 in Santa Rosa, California giving teams 2 years to come up with a design,The wingspan for competing aircraft is limited to 44 feet, the height to 13 feet and length to 23 feet.Read more at http://cafefoundation.org/
