Claimed to ‘define a new standard in dual 25kHz and 8.33kHz radio design’, Trig’s TY96 (10W) and TY97 (16W) certainly impressed us at their launch at Aero Friedrichshafen. We were especially taken with pilot-friendly features like the one-touch emergency frequency button (which also increases audio volume automatically) and the ‘say again’ button, which stores up to 35 seconds of the incoming call. The latter is a real advantage to student and even experienced pilots, saving confusion or the embarrassment of asking air traffic to repeat a message.
An inbuilt USB port allows the upload of an airfield database, which can hold up to 200 of the user’s preferred frequencies and identifiers.
The TMA44 audio panel hosts two to four seats and has mono entertainment and communication options. The TMA45 hosts two to six seats, and has Trig Digital Noise Reduction (TDNR) to automatically select the optimum level of intercom squelch and mic threshold to reduce cockpit noise. Trig Active Mute (TAM) further reduces unwanted background noise from radio static, producing ‘class leading audio’ that allows pilot and passengers to enjoy comprehensive stereo music and entertainment options.
Prices are: TY96 £1,920; TY97 £2,420; TM44 Standard Panel £ 800; and TMA45 Superior Panel £ 1,350
