A series of awards were presented for outstanding aircraft at the LAA Rally, which took place at Sywell Aerodrome from 31 August to 2 September.

The Air Squadron Trophy for the Best Plans Built Aircraft was awarded to Alastair Newall and Neville Langrick for their Falco. Commendation Certificates were awarded to Neil Parkinson’s Pitts S1S and Neil Bigrigg’s DR107 One Design.
Bob Ellis took home the RAA (Canada) Trophy for Best Kit Built Aircraft, which was awarded to his Vans RV8. This aircraft also won the Andy Nowicki Trophy for Best RV.
The Titan T51 Mustang built by Ben Chester-Master – flight tested in Pilot’s July 2012 issue – was awarded the Commendation Certificate for Best Kit Built Aircraft, as well as the Pooley Sword for Best Replica Aircraft.
The John Randall Trophy for Best Vintage Aircraft was awarded to Aneirin Randall Williams’s PA15 Piper Vagabond, which also won the Jim Empson Trophy for Best Fabric Piper.
Nigel Huxtable’s Auster Mk 5 also came away with two awards – the Roy Mills Trophy for Best Classic Aircraft and the Auster Altimeter Trophy for Best Auster.
The Sywell Trophy for Best Classic Homebuilt Aircraft was given to Darren Thorpe’s Christen Eagle.
Meanwhile the Personal Plane Services Trophy for Best Moth was awarded to Ron Gammons’s D.H 85 Leopard Moth, the Albert Codling Trophy for the Best Part Built was won by Simon J Randle’s Flitzer Z2, and the Commendation Certificate for RV Aircraft was given to John Bone’s RV9.
Roberto Carluccio made the Most Meritorious Arrival by Air in his Rutan Long-Ez and was awarded the Malcom Allan Trophy.
Finally, the LAA Rally Youngest Pilot Award was given to Danny Cunningham, who flew over in a Beagle Pup 2.
