Even for someone who has never used flight planning software before, iAeronautical’s iPad app is easy to get to grips with.
Its flight planning facility’s detailed step-by-step guide is particularly useful, although you could be excused for overlooking the miniscule help icon. The software allows users to view waypoints, the route on the map and a vertical profile of the flight, which displays terrain and airspace clearances along chosen route.
The map view displays the selected flight plan route, and users can double tap to view information about a chosen area — such as an airfield. Should you be unable to reach a chosen destination, iAeronautical will find alternative landing sites. It is also simple to update and is linked in to the 28-day Airec cycle. The app currently covers the UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, and more countries are expected to be added soon. JR
